Videoblog: Looking for Lawyers in All the Wrong Places

April 21, 2009 By Mark Draughn 4 Comments

(Alternate title: The Return of Mumbles)

I’m taking another shot at videoblogging. This is just a random story about some legal stuff on the web.

(This was supposed to go up yesterday morning, but I had technical difficulties.)

Here are some of the links mentioned:

  • Gary’s review of Dollhouse.
  • Joel’s story about his daughter.
  • Million-dollar legal advice.
  • Just Cause Law Collective.
  • Findlaw.
  • Avvo.

Thank you for indulging my behavior.

Okay, and remembering that IANAL, and I am kinda snarky . . . it’s more useful to actually have a number — or a name — that you can call than it is to plan on someday setting up a lawyer-client relationship, just in case.

Joel, I’m not sure what you’re getting at. That having a name and number is better than not having them?

On another note, I can’t believe that 6 people have watched this thing so far. I’ve got a long way to go to improve the quality…

Doing something useful right now is better than planning on doing something later on. Right now, you’re close enough for government work. “[Bob], I’m in jail and I need a good criminal defense lawyer, about now.” How many useful values for [Bob] could you fill in right now? I can think of at least a dozen that you could, and I don’t know everybody that you know.

We’re talking about BasicStuffAGuyOrGuyetteNeedsToKnow, at this point. Get more politically active, or have another reason to think that the Eye of Sauron might fix itself upon you, and then there’s a lot of other steps to take.

Yeah, I suppose Windpundit could one day attract Imperial Entanglement.

I’ve already put one web project on hold because a lawyer suggested I should set up a legal defense fund now so that I wouldn’t have to go through the trouble of setting one up later when I got sued. He didn’t think I was doing anything wrong, but that wouldn’t stop the kind of people I was going to piss off.
