Prosecuting Johns – Part 2: Strange Logic, Strange Language

November 18, 2008 By Mark Draughn Leave a Comment

Yesterday, I posted Part 1 of my response to an opinion piece by Melissa Farley and Norma Ramos arguing that Eliot Spitzer and other men who hire prostitutes should be punished as criminals. The article made me angry, and I'm trying to explain why. To start with, although Farley and Ramos want leniency for prostitutes, they don't want legalized prostitution. They regard the … [Read more...] about Prosecuting Johns – Part 2: Strange Logic, Strange Language

Obama Derangement Syndrome Roundup – Part 3

November 17, 2008 By Mark Draughn 2 Comments

I've got a few more bits of Obama Derangement Syndrome to report. Obamacalypse At World Net Daily (which, the first time I stumbled across it, I thought it was a parody site) Jill Stanek opens her article this way: It was the Sunday after the election, and everywhere I looked I could only see impending doom. There is no way God would have allowed Barack Obama to become … [Read more...] about Obama Derangement Syndrome Roundup – Part 3

On the Calls for an Auto Industry Bailout

November 17, 2008 By Mark Draughn 4 Comments

I was planning to write a post on the foolishness of bailing out the big domestic auto makers, but Kip Esquire has already written it for me. No one is seriously suggesting that General Motors be liquidated, all its plants shuttered, all its equipment left to rust and all its employees let … [Read more...] about On the Calls for an Auto Industry Bailout

Prosecuting Johns – Part 1: Gender Bias

November 16, 2008 By Mark Draughn Leave a Comment

In response to the news that former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer would not be charged with any crimes crime for hiring prostitutes, Newsweek magazine published an opinion piece by Melissa Farley and Norma Ramos arguing that this was "a stunning betrayal of the public trust," and coming out in favor of cracking down more heavily on men who hire prostitutes. The DOJ also … [Read more...] about Prosecuting Johns – Part 1: Gender Bias

A Puppycide in Park Forest

November 13, 2008 By Mark Draughn 3 Comments

So this Park Forest cop shoots a dog. It's a family dog, Princess, with two children in the house, so I think we can assume it wasn't too vicious. To be fair, the dog was a mixed German Shepard/pit bull, so it probably looked scary. As is common with family dogs that are shot by cops, it was shot in front of its family, Tracy Walker and her 12-year-old son. According to Walker, … [Read more...] about A Puppycide in Park Forest
