A Libertarian Watches “Narcos”

June 17, 2022 By Mark Draughn 1 Comment

My wife and I had been pretty much ignoring Netflix's Narcos series because it didn't quite interest us enough to justify expending our valuable TV-watching time. And as a long-time opponent of the war on drugs, I wasn't sure I was ready for a series where DEA agents were the heroes. A few weeks ago, we finally decided to give it a try on the theory that a series that ran six … [Read more...] about A Libertarian Watches “Narcos”

COVID-19 is Not Endemic and the Fight is Not Over

February 22, 2022 By Mark Draughn 2 Comments

I just saw an article at Reason arguing that the government should stop making COVID-19 tests free. It begins with this dubious statement:The consensus among scientists and lawmakers after two years of pandemic mayhem is that COVID-19 is officially endemic. They take a lot of data and make it easy to understand. The national picture is looking extremely bleak, with the exception of Maryland, which is looking merely … [Read more...] about Covid Stats Dump – 2022-01-29

Ghostbusters: Afterlife — Review

January 11, 2022 By Mark Draughn Leave a Comment

My wife and I just watched Ghostbusters: Afterlife. I thought it was worth seeing, but you might want to wait for the price to drop. My wife liked it more than I did.As should be clear from the trailers, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is not a traditional sequel to the original Ghostbusters movie. It's not the same kind of story told the same way. If Ghostbusters was the first … [Read more...] about Ghostbusters: Afterlife — Review

Ken Gibson, Rest In Peace (reprise)

January 9, 2022 By Mark Draughn Leave a Comment

When I wrote a few weeks ago about the passing of my brother-in-spirit, Ken Gibson, I mentioned that he was caring for his father, who had himself been in the hospital for two days when Ken died.Ken's father was also named Kenneth Gibson, and this had been a source of confusion for me and others, going all the way back to high school when I had to remember to ask for "John" … [Read more...] about Ken Gibson, Rest In Peace (reprise)
