I’ll grant you that Jon Daniel’s stuff wasn’t very funny, was in bad taste, and was maybe kind of a dickish thing to do. But even nasty parodies have been legal ever since Larry Flynt published the fake ad about Jerry Falwell screwing his own mother in an outhouse and won the resulting libel suit in the Supreme Court. Which means that sending the cops to raid Daniel’s home, regardless of the pretext, was a much bigger dick move. Daniel may have said nasty things, but it was Ardis who turned it violent.

Political parody should mimic the target’s personality and actions, not present unrealistic scenarios that bear no resemblance to his behavior. For an example of true parody, see the Onion’s current take-off on Eric Cantor. What all you whining media folks don’t understand is that what Daniel did was just nasty and unimaginative.
