Thank you so much for this post. I hadn’t heard about Derbyshire’s ridiculous claims when the shooting occurred. I only learned of it today, when people were discussing his latest disgusting bit of writing (involving the Trayvon Martin case).

You mentioned several of the points that I learned in my first university psychology course. I was a biology major. It was the one psychology course required in our curriculum. It was also a required course for most most of the majors in the undergraduate programs. This was your basic no-frills state college. I’m writing all this to say that anyone who would like to be thought of as a well-educated individual, should at least be aware of the tendencies you mentioned. There is no excuse for the National Review to feature pundits like Derbyshire. He offers nothing of value, regardless of your political affiliation or affinities.

Great post. I’d love to see what idiots like Derbyshire, Blake and Steyn would actually do if faced with a similar-type situation like in Iraq. They’re probably cowards and would go down in terror at the first gunshot. I say we sign these loudmouths up for duty– we are hurting for soldiers in Baghdad, after all.
