I’d been planning to post something about this memorial ever since I first encountered it, but I wasn’t sure how to write it, so I just kept it in the back of my mind.

I hadn’t even thought of it as a Memorial Day post. June 30 is my father’s birthday and mine is just a few days before, and we celebrated both of them on Sunday, so I wasn’t really thinking about it as Memorial Day. But when I woke up and started reading everybody else’s Memorial Day posts, I realized that I had most of a nice post already in my head, and it was now time to stop waiting for the Muse and put it all down in words.

I like the way it turned out.

The next day I passed by the memorial and some people had left flowers at it.

I have not seen anything like that where I am, and it’s nice to see the victims of 9/11 remembered publicly. It is pictures like this that should remind Americans what is at stake.
